SEO can be confusing, let us help it make more cents for your business

SEO stands for search engine optimization, which is the process of implementing a set of practices with the end goal of increasing your website’s visibility on search engines. There are many facets of a strong SEO campaign, here we will discuss your sitemap.

A strong foundation for SEO begins with a strong, robust sitemap. A sitemap is essentially the blueprint of your site. This blueprint helps inform search engines about the pages, structure and content that is contained within your website.

The priority of search engines is to provide users on their platform with the most relevant results, related to their search. Think of your sitemap as the index in the owner’s manual of your truck. If you are looking for something in particular, you go to the index and there will likely be subheadings for different aspects of your inquiry. This provides you the ability to easily isolate what you’re looking for, then directs you to the relevant page of content. This is a good user experience. As opposed to thumbing through 400 pages of size 10 font, which would make finding the information much more challenging and likely result in frustration.

You want to aim to provide that same ease of accessibility to search engines and your prospective customers. An example of this for a roofing contractor who offers residential roofing services would be, having a place on the navigation bar for residential roofing, with sub pages that each discuss the individual services within residential roofing. (Roof replacement, roof repair, roof inspections etc…)

Whether you are building your own website, or looking to hire an agency to help you, be sure to keep this in mind.
